During my recent road trip, I had the opportunity to put the 4k Camcorder Kodak PlaySport through its paces as a real user.

Read my Road Trip comments and see links to samples in my June and early July 2010 blog entries, then come back for my summary.

As you’ve read, I was mightily impressed with this little gem, about which I offered early comments and recommendations here.

Now that it’s all over and done, with the demo unit returned to Kodak, it is only fair to provide a summary.  Simply stated, I was WOWED beyond expectations with the image quality, effective electronic image stabilization (not offered by the main competition!), waterproof capability to a depth of 10 feet, 5 megapixel stills, fun factor and overall value of the Kodak PlaySport.  You’ll get quite a bit of excellence for not much money.

Certainly, shop for your best deal, which, at this writing, is as little as $129 with FREE shipping from Amazon.  As specified in my initial review linked above (and containing links to all the extras you need), get an extra battery or two, 8- or 16GB of memory and for under $200, you’re all set.

All you have to do is remember to keep the batteries charged, the memory freed up and, oh yes, take it along everywhere.  You might even want to carry the supplied HDMI cable for immediate gratification when the shooting’s done.  Plug in to the nearest high def TV and watch your handiwork.  Be prepared for praise from your audience!
