I recently saw some terrific home care products from Shark at the recent International Home and Housewares Show in Chicago and also have had the opportunity to test them.  They would all be welcome additions to your High Tech Home!

Let me tell you up front that more information on everything below is at www.sharkvac.com.

Let’s start with their $80 Professional Cordless Sweeper.  It picks up what most vacuums cannot – metal messes, like nuts & bolts, and soggy messes such as cooked food.  Of course, it also makes quick work of life’s other everyday messes, such as large crumbs, stray peas, that pile of little nails used for hanging pictures on the wall or the contents of the paper clip container that fall on the floor.  How about the box of cereal that falls over on the edge of the counter, but the contents end up on the floor?  Or a piece of pizza topping?  I think you get the idea.  Just grab the Sweeper!

The Shark Professional Cordless Sweeper uses brush action to direct the mess into the dirt cup where it is easily removed. Have you ever dropped a valuable, such as a bracelet or earring, or the earring back?  Ordinary vacuums might damage these items if they are picked up and brought through a vacuum’s mechanism. Not so with this Shark sweeper.  Whatever is picked up with the Shark is pretty gently placed in the dirt cup – whole – where your precious valuable will be there, likely undamaged and none the worse for the short trip from the floor to the cup.

Add to the overall performance the fact that this sweeper weighs in at under five pounds and cleans for up to 80 minutes per charge.  Now, that’s performance and value!

Unique wall-hugging technology exclusive to Shark allows the Cordless Sweepers to get into hard-to-reach corners and grab dirt along walls.  There’s a little rotating brush at the right front corner that spins and can bring out the dirt in the crack where the floor meets the wall.  An ergonomic handle and telescoping tube easily adjust for any user’s height and provide for easy storage.

I also like the triple LED headlights that provide illumination ahead and especially under tables and in dark corners.

The same pick-up power is in Shark’s $30 Mini Hand Sweeper that features up to 90 minutes of cleaning time on a charge.

What about for those times you DO need a little vacuum?  Shark’s got you covered!  I like their NEW Cordless Hand Vac with Detachable Motorized Brush, $40.

With 14.4 volts of cleaning power, detachable motorized brush, crevice tool for cleaning in corners, high-capacity battery pack for long run-time, easy detachable and washable filter and portability, it’s the tool you’ll grab for cleanups in the house, the car and in the garage.  It relies on both the brush and suction to clean up the mess.  Simple and effective!  Find it nationwide at Bed, Bath & Beyond, Sears, Best Buy, Target, Linens ‘n Things.

Most of us know the power of steam.  Steam is a great cleaner of many things, as well as being useful in clothing maintenance – ironing and steaming out wrinkles.  Let me introduce you to two steam-powered tools for your High Tech Home.

First, there is Shark’s $60 Euro-Pro Intelligent Iron with Xtended Steam Burst.  Let’s have a look at its pedigree.  Start with 1700 watts of power combined with its unique sole plate technology for maximum heat and stream power for getting out the toughest wrinkles and to freshen clothes.  This really is two appliances in one, so there may be no need for that clothes steamer you’ve been thinking about.

With this iron, certain garments can be steamed horizontally or vertically, because it powerfully shoots continuous steam, a feature I have not seen on other irons.  And, it works beautifully, as I have seen in my own tests.  It even has anti-drip that prevents water from dripping on garments when the temperature is not high enough to create steam.

The self-cleaning feature and permanent anti-calcium filter prolong iron life.  Forget about those calcium rings around the steam ports.

The extra-large stainless steel soleplate made from a unique composition contains high levels of metal for maximum heat retention and easy gliding.

Rounding out the excellent features of the iron are a comfortable handle, a 360º cord pivot (a very good and cool feature that prevents the cord from extreme bends and kinking at the base), variable steam power control with spray mist and multi-position auto shutoff that turns the iron off automatically from any position when it is not in use.  Finally, I like and appreciate the intelligent electronic controls that display actual AND set temperature at all times.

Find the Shark Euro-Pro Intelligent Electronic Iron with Xtended Steam Burst at retailers including Bed, Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, JC Penney, Kohl’s, Lowes, Linens ‘n Things, Sears and Target.

The other steam “gadget” from Shark is a real winner and quite impressive, as well.  It is simple and effective. This baby really works!  You WILL want one, I predict, and you WILL use it more than you might think you might, initially.  After the first time, you will probably think, as I did, “Where else can I use this thing!”

The $50 Shark Steam Bottle uses plain old water (or purified/distilled water if your area tap water is really crappy and mineral-laden) and creates superheated steam for cleaning like nobody’s business.

The steam has the capability of cleaning, deodorizing and sanitizing, all without chemicals, many of which are quite harsh.  This is HUGE.  NO chemicals!  This is no misprint.  It’s the steam and NOT chemicals that does the work.  You can clean BETTER and SAFER without chemicals, and save money, too!  When it comes to all-natural, you can’t get more natural than water.

I use it to clean kitchen and bathroom countertops and tiles, floors, windows (and glass shower doors) and gunk outside as well as in the garage.  It can be used for cleaning shower door tracks, refreshing fabrics, window coverings, pillows, bedding, vertical and horizontal surfaces, sealed grout, windows and mirrors, stovetops (and those messy burner liners!), faucets and shower heads, small stains on the garage floor and in the driveway and LOTS more!

Since it is not pressurized, it can easily be refilled instantly.

The kit includes the Steam Bottle, squeegee, microfiber cloth and accessory, three nylon detail scrub brushes, angle adapter and filling flask.

The Steam Bottle is lightweight and small, and, as I cannot overstate, it works wonderfully.  I wish there had been one many years ago.  Now, I can’t imagine being without it.  Get yours, and I am sure you will, at retailers including Bed, Bath & Beyond, JC Penney, Linens ‘n Things, Macy’s, Target and Walgreens.
